THE PLANETS

THE PLANETS: An Immersive Dance, Art and Space Experience

In May 2025, over 100 dancers, artists and musicians gathered at the Sky’s the Limit Observatory in Twentynine Palms, California to produce an unforgettable experience in an otherworldly location.

“THE PLANETS” featured the works of multiple local choreographers set to compositions from the seven-movement orchestral suite by Gustav Holst, who composed the work between 1914 and 1917. “THE PLANETS” also geared original composition from renowned musician Jérémie Levi Samson, who composed original works for The Asteroid Belt, Pluto, the Curiosity Mars Rover, and the electromagnetic waves pieces.

Due to the unique setting, “THE PLANETS” had no fixed stage or seating arrangements. Our Electromagnetic Waves served as dancing ushers to guide audience members from piece to piece that were set across the property. This also allowed the audience to move around to view dances from any vantage point, forging multiple perspectives and experiences suited to each individual.

Local artist and printmaker Zach J.F. Boyles created cyanotypes flags to help guide audience members to the site of each dance. Each flag featured an original designs using traditional vexillological principles meant to evoke each planet’s theme as if it were its own nation-state.

THE PLANETS was made possible in part by Visit29 Palms, as well as multiple local businesses sponsorship and in-kind donations.
